Do you have a passion for the environment? Do you want a job that makes a difference? Honaunau Elementary School is hiring a part-time Garden Assistant. Our school garden is a place of endless opportunity to inspire and educate the youth of our community in an outdoor setting. The garden program is well-established and seeking a dedicated staff member to assist with teaching project based lessons, garden maintenance, grant writing, and community outreach.
This position is 12 to 17 hours per week. Position requirements: Experience working with children required Ability to pass background check Agriculture or gardening experience required Preferred Qualifications: Grant writing experience preferred Early-childhood or elementary education experience preferred Bachelor's degree preferred STEM degree preferred and/or experience teaching STEM preferred Teaching Certificate or Substitute Teaching Certificate preferred. Position responsibilities include: Assisting and leading garden lessons Teaching lessons on Fridays during school year Seeking out and applying for grant funding Routine garden maintenance, weed whacking ability preferred Lifting, digging, planting, working in the sun, etc. Reaching out to community partners Availability for summer garden maintenance and a summer garden program Participation Saturday events 2-4 times throughout the year Compensation: Hourly rate based on qualifications.
