Believe it or not we saw Saturn and it's famous rings and this picture is the largest planet, Jupiter with over 60 moons. Here you can see 3 of the 4 biggest moons. We could also see the well known bands that run around Jupiter with the 12 inch Telescope pictured below. All the Astronomy equipment was generously shared with us by Maureen Salmi, and the Keck Observatory, which is the largest telescope in the world!! We also had the ever reliable Andrew Unger from the West Hawaii Astronomy Club and two new volunteers from Keck, John Pelletier and his wife, Stephanie Pickett. The Campout also consisted of a Family Walking Moai on the upper field, a read to your parents activity, a sing along station, and a beautiful Pasta dinner...For Free! Once all the activities were completed students and family members could go get s'mores at the campfire and then relax for a movie, which was projected out on our lower field. Big Mahalo's to all who contributed and helped support this event and we are already looking forward to next year. |
